This three-day event, entitled "Animal to Human Health Collaborations: Partnerships for Innovation," is led by the University of Missouri-Columbia and hosted by the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Poster abstracts are solicited from academics and the life sciences industry in two key areas: current successful partnerships and promising areas for new collaborations. The summit seeks to provide a creative environment for real consideration of new ways of working together. Summit organizers will be happy to consider any abstract designed to promote and generate interest in new collaborations, richer research results, and a stronger economy.

The special taskforce on Digital Directions in the Humanities, sponsored by the Hall Center, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and KU Libraries, is pleased to announce KU's first Digital Humanities Summit. This two-day event will include presentations by faculty from KU and other area universities, and researchers from local cultural institutions. Alan Liu, Professor of English at the University of California, Santa Barbara, will deliver the keynote, "From Reading to Social Computing." He will explore how digital humanities and literary study can incorporate the new social networking and other socially-oriented technologies. The second day of the Summit will include a presentation and "mock panel" exercise with Senior Program Officer Jennifer Serventi of the Office of Digital Humanities at the National Endowment for the Humanities. Faculty will have the opportunity to meet with Serventi individually to discuss specific project ideas.

Just in time for Severe Weather Awareness Week in Kansas, Meteorologist Scott Blair will bring his weather science expertise and personal stories to the museum at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 9. Blair, a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Topeka, Kan., drives thousands of miles across the Great Plains each year to document severe storms. To date he has observed more than 100 tornadoes in 14 states. Blair will discuss the formation of tornadoes and supercells, and he will share some of the startling and beautiful images he has taken of stormy weather

Consider signing up next week so the same folks don't always bring treats! We meet every Wednesday from 9:30 am to 11:30 am. But feel free to come and go as it works for your schedule. RSVP is not necessary for this event. It just helps us know how many snacks to bring. Even if you don't know until the last minute, feel free to join us! The kiddos have a chance to run around a large open area and play with toys -- I don't know about you, but for me it is great to have my children learn how to interact with other children instead of just MOMMY! Also the adults have time to interact with other grown-ups! It is just a great time to relax and be with other moms. There are snacks and coffee provided each week. If you or your children have any food allergies please note them on your response so that we can serve snacks that are appropriate for everyone :)
